ATEX Approval for Concens Actuators, Sep. 2008

Concens A/S have received ATEX approval for the new ATEX-developed actuator. The approval makes Concens actuators the ideal solution for production areas with dust such as corn or flour handling.

Actuators for EX classified environments have the following marking: II 3 D

  • EX  sign is symbol for equipment approved for potential explosive environments.
  • II   indicates material group and II is for material for all environments exclusive of mines.
  • 3    categories the group to equipment for environments with exceptionally potential explosive atmosphere of gas, vapour, smoke or a mix of air and dust within a limited period – max. 10 hours a year.
  • D   Indicates that the equipment is approved for dust filled explosive environments (D for dust).

EN/UL 60.601-1 Certification of Actuator Solution
helps Manufacturers of especially Rehab, Medical, and Home Care Equipment - December 2007

The Danish manufacturer of inline actuators, Concens A/S, has obtained certification of their actuator solution pursuant to UL 60.601-1 on the American market and EN 60.601-1 in the EU. The certification makes it easier for machinery manufacturers to obtain product approval in both the USA and the EU.

For many machinery manufacturers it can be a lengthy process to have their products approved in the USA, Canada and Europe as demands are made on tests and approval of the majority of components. Therefore, concens has had their system solution tested and certified in the USA by the recognised TÜV Institute in Massachusetts.  The solution comprises 1 actuator with a control box, battery and battery charger – a complete solution, which is often built into rehab solutions and into special machinery.
The certification covers technical areas such as EMC, watertightness and hygiene, but also function safety so that dangerous situations do not occur with stoppage or faults.
It is precisely the safety aspect that is crucially important in the rehab industry with both operating and handling. The rehab industry is one of the most important customer groups for concens, but also other machinery manufacturers have comprehensive demands to safety and also here, concens’ certification is considered as a further advantage to use actuator solutions from concens.
”With this certification in our hands, the manufacturers of machinery and equipment will achieve product approval from the authorities more easily and faster. This applies not least within the rehab area where solutions for person handling such as wheelchairs and lifts, which place great demands on safety, will be able to be approved if all components are certified," says Peder Jørgensen, sales & marketing manager at Concens A/S.
Therefore he predicts that the certification will create interest from worldwide machinery manufacturers as they can save valuable time and significant costs to obtain the necessary product approvals and thereby get out onto the market with the product. “This can provide the product with both competitive advantages and faster return-on-investment,” concludes Peder Jørgensen.
