Steel
Standard carbon Steel
As standard we produce our actuators in a black powder coated standard carbon steel versions, where the powder-coating not only creates a protective barrier, so the metal remains free from corrosion, when it is used in the correct environment, but it also contributes to the actuator appearing with a consistently plain and smooth surface.
All standard carbon steel actuators have the benefit that you can customise the colour to fit perfectly with your design. Read more about the colour option here
Our standard colour is black RAL9005, shine 25.
Stainless Steel
Electric inline actuators in stainless steel are also a standard option for all our actuators. Often used in applications for Industrial Automation and Maritime, but not limited to. Actuators in stainless steel are useful for environments where the applications are exposed to water or need to fulfil special requirements from e.g., the food industry. The acid-resistant stainless steel (AISI316) gives high protection against environments exposed to seawater or industrial cleaning chemicals, etc.
IP-classes
The IP classes are related to the Ingress Protection (IP) rating system, which provides information about the degree of protection provided against the intrusion of solids and liquids. Here's an overview of the values associated with the IP classes our actuators are tested.
No matter which actuator solution you require for your application design, you have the possibility to choose between IP66 and IP68/69 for both standard carbon steel- and stainless-steel actuators.
IP66:
This rating is standard minimum for all our electric inline actuators.
Both our actuators produced in black standard carbon steel and stainless steel are produced to sustain the IP66 classification standard as minimum. This means that all the parts of the actuator meet the requirements according to IP66 when it is assembled.
The actuators with IP66 rating, is as overall protected against dust and other solid particles on the highest level of protection against solids. Additional IP66 is protected against strong jets of water, but with limited ingress permitted.
IP68:
This rating indicates a high level of protection against water.
The IP68 classification not only indicates the highest level of protection against dust and solids, but it also indicates that the actuator is protected against continuous immersion in water. Meaning the actuator have been lowered to 1 meter water for 1 hour and have been running during the test, according to the international standard edition IEC 60529.
IP69:
This rating indicates a high level of protection of steam-jet cleaning.
Actuators with an IP69 rating are classified for environments where e.g., high pressure cleaning from powerful jets is a standard procedure to clean the application where the actuator are applied. IP69 rating is also a complete protection against dust and other solid particles.
The IP69 test has been carried out in accordance with the international standard edition and our actuators has been tested with water pressure adjusted to 85 bars and water temperature up to 80°C.
HE – Harsh Environment
The actuators produced and tested according to the standard of IP68/69 classification we have named HE (Harsh Environment) actuators, to point out that all HE-actuators are produced to be used in a variety of Environments with e.g., Harsh weather conditions or with high cleaning standard requirements.
Special requirements - Customisation
If the standard carbon steel actuator has a need for extra corrosion protection and still being cost effective compared to the stainless-steel version, this can be solved by Electro-galvanizing of the external steel parts of the actuator.
Should your requirements require different material properties then standard offered, please do not hesitate to contact your local actuator dealer and discuss the possibilities.
